This week has been pretty low-key. Besides work, I’ve been catching up on some cleaning around the apartment, I went to a Cubs vs. Mets game with my husband, forced myself to get back into the gym after a few weeks off, and today I’m getting my hair done. However, it’s definitely the calm before the storm—the next few weeks promise to be pretty busy! I’ll be traveling on consecutive weekends. First, back to New Jersey and upstate New York for my sister-in-law’s wedding. And the weekend after that, I’m heading to Napa with a few of my best girlfriends to celebrate our 30th year of life.
The first week of June my sister will be visiting me in Chicago. I always love when she comes to visit—we usually stick to the basics: Shopping & Eating. Confession, on her last visit we went on a “donut crawl.” It sounds delicious but, it got ugly pretty fast. I seriously couldn’t look at a donut for about 6 months after that. (Don’t worry, I’ve made a full recovery.) Finally, the following weekend my husband, another couple and I are doing the Warrior Dash, a 5K with obstacles and mud. Prayers are welcomed.
As I worked to get organized in preparation for a few upcoming weeks of crazy, I put together a list of things I’m currently doing.
Currently dreaming about a home office.
Is that sad? I work from home most of the week and right now my home office is my coffee table. Lately, I’ve been dreaming about an organized, spacious home office—a place that helps me focus and encourages productivity. When my husband and I talk about a “wish list” for our future home, along with his and her sinks in the bathroom, separate closets and a sweet backyard, home office is at the top of my list.
Currently reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.
I think I’m a little late to the party on this one. A co-worker lent me this book and I just started it. I don’t know much about the plot, which is a little different for me. Usually when I start a book, I have a general idea of what it’s about. However, what I’ve heard is that it’s the new Gone Girl—which I loved. So far, it has been an easy read. Already, I’m starting to put little pieces together and can’t wait to read what happens next. Have you read it? #didsomebodysaybookclub?
Currently concerned by how much Chipotle I’ve eaten in the past month.
I’m beginning to worry about the number of times I frequent Chipotle. I’m talking at least a few times a week. But it’s so good, amiright? I blame it partly on the convenience—it’s only 2 blocks away from my apartment and I pass it on my way home from most places. Plus, Chipotle recently announced they’re only serving food made with non-GMO ingredients. Just to be sure, I compared notes with this BuzzFeed post: 26 Signs You Are Addicted to Chipotle. Can’t stop, won’t stop—please send help!
Currently pining for this pin:
Hello, pretty colors! Succulents are my kind of plants—low maintenance and beautiful. I came across these fun monogram planters from Rooted In Succulents on Pinterest, and I just love them. Can’t you just picture H E L L O F R I D A Y spelled out in succulents? Me too. I think imma need this for my home office.
Currently wondering if I need a little digital detox?
Hi. My name is Devon, and I may or may not have a social media problem. I am in a serious, committed relationship with my smartphone…and my iPad…and my laptop. But lately, I’ve been feeling a little too connected. Admittedly, I constantly have my phone in my hand or very close by. And when I don’t, I miss it. Oh my gosh, what is wrong with me?!? Pinning, tweeting, posting and poking (just kidding, no one pokes anymore, duh) have become such a big part of my daily routine. But, with summer fast approaching, I’m seriously thinking of setting some guidelines, unplugging and focusing more on living in the present. Trust me, I understand the irony of this situation. That being said, I will not be detoxing from my Hello Friday posts—I have to draw the line somewhere, right? And, if you decide to detox too, please make a Hello Friday exception as well. Otherwise, my mom will be the only one reading this. Which might be the case anyhow. (Y’all, there is even an organization dedicated to this “cause.” They offer retreats, workshops and even a camp to assist with your digital detoxing needs. I found a lot of really interesting info on the digitaldetox.org website.) I think we may need to revisit this later. Standby.
Currently reminiscing about last Monday night at Bottle & Bottega…
Last week I met up with a few girlfriends and their moms for a little ladies night out at Bottle & Bottega, a BYOWine and painting studio. I wish my mom had been there too—she would have loved it! The studio provided the supplies: canvas, paints and brushes, and our instructor gave a demonstration to guide us through the night. After a few glasses of Moscato, I was feeling pretty artistic. It was a fun alternative to a typical night out. Now, I just need to find a place to hang it…if only I had that home office…
Currently wearing my Gap denim jacket on repeat.
I’ve always had a thing for denim jackets. They usually go in and out of style every 2 to 3 years, but I have always kept mine in heavy rotation. Right now, I’ve been wearing this one from Gap a little too much…if that’s even a thing? It goes with so many outfits. Also, I love layering, and a denim jacket is perfect for that.
Currently wishing I was at this New England clambake.
Doesn’t this New England clambake, featured by La Brea Bakery, just scream summer? I grew up spending my summers in Ocean City, Maryland and having crab feasts with my family—similar idea and equally delicious, I’m sure.
Currently obsessed with this scent.
I found this candle at TJ Maxx and really wish I had bought more than one. It smells EXACTLY like the lobby of the El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico—the place we stayed during our honeymoon. So, this candle’s scent takes me right back to my happy place. Unfortunately, it’s not available on the company’s website. I look for it every time I go to TJ Maxx or Marshalls, hoping they will have it again. I’ll just have to light it sparingly!
Currently getting excited about my upcoming Girl’s Trip.
This makes me laugh…because it’s true.
Currently craving this Mexican Corn Dip from Damn Delicious.
I absolutely love this recipe. It’s technically a dip, but when my husband and I make it, we just eat it as side dish. One of our favorite restaurants in Chicago, Bavette’s, has a version similar to this on their menu. It’s so easy to make and would be perfect for any warm-weather cookout or gathering.
What are some things you’re currently doing?
See you next Friday! xx, Devon
