We’re down to just four boxes. My husband and I have been in Charlotte, NC now for 2 weeks and out of 32 boxes from our move, there are only four left. And while some might find that unnerving—that while we’re so close to the finish line, we’ve seemingly given up and called it quits on the unpacking, I’m surprisingly fine with it. It’s been an interesting experience (slowly) unpacking over the past few weeks and realizing we could really live happily with a lot less “things.” In those four boxes are a bunch of unimportant odds and ends we probably should have gotten rid of before we left Chicago. And since we don’t have a dining room, chances are those four boxes will stay stacked right where they are, in the corner of our dining room, for a while.
We’re settling into our new apartment and although we haven’t had much time to explore our new neighborhood, we like what we’ve seen so far. It’s almost sad how exciting it is for us to be able to find our way home from the grocery without using GPS anymore. I’m sure after the upcoming holidays, I’ll spend some time sharing a little bit more of our new home.
Before I dive into this post about what I’m currently up to, I just want to give fair warning that it’s pretty food heavy—I must have been hungry while I was writing it. Which sounds about right. I’m currently…
Craving all things chocolate.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you, when I came across this recipe for Chocolate Buttermilk-Frosted Brownies on Food52, I got a little choked up. They’re beautiful, aren’t they?
Thankful for this AMAZING concealer.
Maybe I’ll blame it on the move—late nights spent packing (and stressing), but lately I’ve felt extra tired. And as a result, I’ve noticed those awful, dark circles forming under my eyes. I’ve been using this Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage for about a month now and I won’t ever go back. It brightens, conceals, and provides full coverage right where I need it most.
This is my vibe.
JessicaSaysDesigns understands my struggle.
Last month I met some girlfriends at Summer House Santa Monica, in Chicago, for lunch. I ordered a dish similar to this and ever since I’ve been a little obsessed with avocado toast. Poaching eggs scares me but my craving is so strong, I think I may attempt to figure it out just to make this dish. This Simple Poached Eggs and Avocado Toast recipe from Pinch of Yum, looks like the perfect version.
My dresser is seriously lacking some pizzaz. As I start to get organized in our new place, I’m searching for some cute, jewelry trays like these from Layla Grayce, that will help bring a little glamour to my dresser situation.
Wishing someone would make these for me. Please?
My pumpkin problem shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. I’m riding this pumpkin spice train straight into next year. The fact that these cookies found on the Better Homes & Gardens‘ website are called, “Melt-in-Your-Mouth” Pumpkin cookies, says it all.
I bought this Rails plaid shirt (on sale!) at Nordstrom and ever since, I’ve been wearing it almost non-stop. It’s soft and silky unlike some of my other plaid shirts, which makes it easy to dress it up. Unfortunately it’s not on sale anymore and it’s no longer available at Nordstrom, but you can find it at Intermix.
Applauding Reese for her Glamour ‘Women of the Year’ speech.
Reese Witherspoon was recognized as one of Glamour Magazine’s 2015 Women of the Year. Her speech is a great reminder of female power and ambition. Read it!
Loving this foundation brush.
I’ve been watching a lot of makeup tutorials on YouTube lately. (For some reason this feels like an embarrassingly real confession?) I just find them fascinating. Probably because there is little rhyme or reason for how I apply anything on my face. One thing I noticed, all of these makeup artists use some sort of applicator for foundation. So, I decided to step up my makeup game and give it a try. I get it now. The Perfecting Skin Brush from BareMinerals helps my foundation blend perfectly and go on nice and smoothly.
Have a nice weekend, y’all!
See you next Friday. xx, Devon
