This week was like the perfect storm: the end of vacation and the holiday season and the beginning of a new year and work week. After being away from home for two weeks, My husband and I got home late last Sunday afternoon, unloaded the car directly onto the living room floor, and spent most of the week stepping around it all and pretending it didn’t exist. It’s never easy going back to work after a vacation, but add the holidays to mix, and I was totally thrown off. I don’t know about you, but it was tough to get back into the swing of things. The good news is, since I work from home, I didn’t have to put on real pants or makeup—which certainly helped the whole situation. Today, the sight of suitcases, shopping bags, and our christmas tree in our dining room started to make me feel like maybe my 2016 wasn’t off to the most productive start. In all honesty, I could have used one more week of 2015, just to recuperate from holiday travel.
Since I’ve been avoiding unpacking, here’s what I’ve been doing this week instead…
Yes! 54 steps down! Only 9,946 more to go. I’ve noticed since moving from Chicago to Charlotte, I walk a lot less now. So, I’m hoping my new Fitbit and some healthy family competition inspires me to get moving.
This is him eating a salad. He’s like really skinny. Welcome to 30, Jordan!
I’m loving my new New Balance shoes. You may remember I (very conveniently) posted this pair from J. Crew on a “Currently…” post a few weeks ago. Good news, Santa reads Hello Friday! (Thanks, Mom & Dad)
Can’t stop, won’t stop. All week my go-to breakfast has been a toasted English Muffin topped with peanut butter and banana slices. I’m telling y’all, it hits the spot. I meant to take a picture of it for this post, but I ate it before I got the chance. I almost thought about making another, for the blog, but that would have left me an English Muffin short for tomorrow morning. Thank goodness there are pinners out there who understand this struggle. This version is drizzled with honey. Not sure I should even go down that road, but it looks delicious!
Charleston, South Carolina is one of my absolute favorite cities. It’s charming, beautiful and boasts some amazing restaurants and shopping. My husband and I celebrate our birthdays exactly 2 weeks apart, and since Charleston is only 3.5 hours from Charlotte, we’re thinking about planning a joint birthday trip this April.
Because I’ve had a serious craving for donuts lately. (These are from Donut Vault in Chicago.)
Being far away from my best friends is tough, but this week we used ooVoo, a free video chat and instant messaging app, for a virtual catch-up. It was so nice to see their beautiful faces. It was so much fun, so we’re definitely going to be video chatting more often.
Don’t worry, no spoilers here. I’m not even sure I could put my thoughts on this Netflix documentary into words. I think I’m actually in shock. My husband and I just finished episode 4 last night. Are you watching? If not, you should!
Since I’m determined to get things in order before we head into the weekend, un-decorating the tree (which I think we can all agree is significantly less fun than decorating it), was at the top of my to-do list. Goodbye, Christmas.
Well we made it to the weekend, Friends! The first full week of the year is officially in the books.
See you next week! xx, Devon
